Alfa Romeo has teased the Tonale, the Italian car manufacturer’s latest SUV. Scheduled to make its official global debut on 8 February 2022, the local arm of the Turin-based firm has already confirmed the Tonale will reach our shores in the first quarter of 2023.

Revealed in 2019 as a concept SUV, the Tonale “is an expression that looks fondly into [Alfa Romeo’s] future”. According to the automaker, the soon-to-be-revealed SUV sports a unique Italian design and unmistakable Alfa Romeo style. 

“The Tonale looks into the future of the CUV segment, creating a holistic creative expression through the blend of beauty and technology. For Alfa Romeo Design, it is a piece of art.” The Tonale’s exterior styling recalls a number of time-honoured design elements, synonymous with the rich history of the brand, with an execution that excites a modern approach to the new Alfa Romeo anatomy.

Although power and torque output, as well as performance figures, are yet to be unveiled, the company has announced the Stelvio’s sibling will be powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The Tonale’s rear-mounted electric engine “opens the way to new technological solutions that offer enhanced driving dynamics, to maximise the pleasure of sporty driving”.
