The sixth issue of APEX magazine has hit the shelves. In issue 06, we sampled several motor vehicles eliciting intense feelings of emotion — the Ferrari Daytona SP3, this issue’s cover car, is arguably the stuff of dreams, while driving the SA-built BMW 530 MLE, arguably the spiritual ancestor of all M cars, in celebration of the German marque’s motorsport department’s 50th anniversary was a near spiritual experience. However, the celebrations of M’s 50th don’t end there. We sampled the first BMW EV donning an “M” badge, the i4 M50, hopped into the hardcore M5 CS and met up with M’s founder Jochen Neerpasch.
Speaking of an electrified offering from a German automaker’s performance arm… We took Mercedes-AMG’s first plug-in hybrid, the GT 63 S E Performance, for a Deep drive. Affalterbach’s petrol-electric saloon may be more silent, but don’t be deceived, a bruiser it undoubtedly is.
Continuing with EVs, the Kia EV6 left us in awe. It’s a Kia, but not as you know it. We also sampled the latest variant in the South Korean carmaker’s local line-up, the punchy turbocharged Sonet.
The fifth-generation Range Rover impressed on a Deep drive. And then we headed off-road in the Jeep Gladiator and put the new Isuzu D-Max to the test. In addition, we get a taste of Volkswagen’s coupé-styled Taigo; take it easy in the new Honda HR-V, drive the box-fresh Suzuki Baleno, and test the commendable new Opel Mokka.
This and many more in issue 06 of APEX, the peak of South African motoring. Be sure to grab your copy — in-store or in digital format online — and subscribe to South Africa’s hottest automotive magazine.
