Following the release of teaser images, Bentley has finally unwrapped the fifth model in its luxury car portfolio, the Bentayga EWB (Extended Wheelbase). Boasting a wheelbase 180 mm longer than the standard model, the new derivative focuses on wellness.

The Bentayga EWB’s wheelbase measures 3 175 mm. Overall length is 5 322 mm. Thanks to the increased dimensions, the British luxury brand says the new derivative’s cabin offers more space than its competitors. “The increased length is all in the rear door, creating an exceptionally luxurious rear cabin area,” said the firm.

“The Bentayga EWB is our first car truly dedicated to onboard wellness”

Billed as the most advanced seat ever fitted to a car, the new Bentley Airline Seat specification offers 22 ways of adjustment and “world-firsts” in a new automatic climate sensing system and postural adjustment tech. In Relax mode, the seat can recline to 40 degrees. In Business mode, the pew moves into its most upright position “to make working on the move more comfortable”.

The auto climate seat tech senses the occupants’ temperature and surface humidity to determine whether to apply heat, ventilation or both. The postural adjustment system automatically makes micro-adjustments to the seating position and pressure points. Over three hours, this set-up can apply 177 individual pressure changes across six fully independent pressure zones. This, Bentley says, improves comfort and minimises fatigue.

“The Bentayga Extended Wheelbase is our first car truly dedicated to the onboard wellness of its occupants. Every Bentley gets you to your destination feeling more relaxed than when you started your journey. Yet, with the Extended Wheelbase, we’ve been able to go even further thanks to the adoption of world-first wellness technology embedded within our unrivalled interior cabin design,” said Adrian Hallmark, chairman and chief executive of Bentley Motors.

In addition to the tech mentioned above, the EWB version incorporates advanced stitching. The diamond motif has been elongated from the centre of the seatbacks and along the length of the doors to reflect the SUV’s size. Bentley’s Diamond Illumination feature emits light through tiny perforations in the door trim. The Crew-based company says, “With 24 billion trim combinations alone (and a total number of possible specifications running into the trillions), the cabin of the Bentayga Extended Wheelbase is capable of offering the most individual Bentayga ever.”

The Bentayga EWB is powered by the firm’s 4.0-litre V8 engine. The twin-scroll turbocharged unit produces 405 kW and 770 Nm of torque, allowing for a claimed 0-100 km/h sprint time of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 290 km/h.
