The BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé has been revealed, with the second-generation version of BMW’s four-door 4 featuring a sharper design and enhanced driving dynamics.
The character of the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé, BMW says, is “clearly expressed” in its exterior design. The four-door coupé measures 4 783 mm in length, 1 853 mm wide and 1 442 mm in height. Compared to the previous-generation BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé, the latest version is 143 mm longer, 27 mm wider and 53 mm taller. The new model’s front and rear tracks have been increased, too. The front and rear track now measure 1 595 mm and 1 623 mm. The wheelbase, meanwhile, has been stretched by 46 mm to 2 856 mm. Thanks to the new 4 Series Gran Coupé’s sleek silhouette, drag coefficient is down from that of its predecessor.
According to BMW, the model-specific body concept allows for a generous amount of interior space. BMW claims the new 4 Gran Coupé offers 39 litres more boot space than its predecessor. Boot space for the latest 4 Gran Coupé is rated at 470 litres, which can be expanded to 1 290 litres when the 40:20:40-split rear backrest is folded down.
BMW offers the new 4 Gran Coupé with the choice of “state-of-the-art” four- and six-cylinder engines, featuring 48 V mild-hybrid technology for increased dynamism and fuel efficiency. The diesel option consists of a 140 kW 2,0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel (available in the two- and all-wheel-drive 420d models). Petrol models include the 420i, 430i and M440i xDrive. The 420i is equipped with a 135 kW 2,0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder and the 430i a 190 kW 3,0-litre turbocharged inline-six. The current top-of-the-line model’s – the M440i xDrive – turbocharged inline-six produces 275 kW. Both the diesel engine option and inline-six petrol in the M440i xDrive feature 48 V starter generator, which allows for an additional 8 kW when accelerating off the line.
All models, bar the M440i xDrive, are equipped with BMW’s standard eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. The M440i xDrive features an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission.
