The past week has been a busy one for German automaker BMW, with the firm whipping the wraps off the refreshed 3 Series and the all-new M4 CSL. The Bavarian brand has now continued its streak of new releases, with the firm introducing a special-edition M4. Celebrating 50 years of BMW M, meet the M4 50 Jahre edition.
BMW says, with the new model, M enthusiasts around the globe can express both their passion for racing and their awareness of tradition. The limited-edition variant features exclusive design details, including individually selectable options to ensure that each version reflects the style of its owner.
Based on the M4 Competition xDrive coupé, the M4 50 Jahre edition is equipped with BMW’s 3.0-litre inline-six petrol engine. The turbocharged unit directs 375 kW and 650 Nm of torque to all four corners via an eight-speed automatic transmission. BMW claims a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 290 km/h.
According to the carmaker, the exclusive character of the edition model is the result of a market-specific configuration with unique design features. BMW M has reissued the colours from its history for the exterior colour palette. These include Carbon Black, Macao Blue, Brands Hatch Grey, Imola Red and San Marino Blue. BMW says the hues’ “expressive” appearance is enhanced by 19-inch fore and 20-inch aft M forged wheels, available in Orbit Grey Matt and Gold Bronze matte finish.
Inside, the two-door sports coupé features an array of “Edition 50 Jahre BMW M” logos and lettering. The centre console features “M4 Edition 50 Jahre BMW M” lettering. This can also be found on the (standard) M sports seats’ headrests and the door sill panels. There’s also a “1/500” logo, indicating that only 500 will be made.
