Chery has announced that the Omoda C5 is heading to South Africa, with the local arm of the Chinese automaker saying the “sporty” crossover will soon be offered in our market.
Unveiled in 2021, the Omoda C5 ushers in a new design language for Chery. The carmaker says it symbolises its ambition to create vehicles that successfully cross over between “stunning” design, “leading” technologies and a “truly rewarding” driving experience.
“The Omoda C5 is all about the unconventional and fashionable”
“This heralds the introduction of a new range of futuristic vehicles which embody Chery’s ‘Art in Motion’ design language into the South African Market,” said the company. “The Omoda C5 is all about the unconventional and fashionable, and its arrival will create a futuristic space called O-universe which is set to appeal to individualistic urban trendsetters who dare to be different.”
According to the firm, “At the heart of ‘the Art in Motion’ design philosophy is the idea that a design that is functional can also be incredibly beautiful. And the design has to be touched and seen from outside and experienced behind the wheel.”
Underpinned by Chery’s “next-generation” architecture, the Omoda C5 sports “extremely smooth” lines, which, the firm says, appear almost liquid. The front end features an integrated diamond matrix grille and split LED headlamps incorporating LED daytime-running lights. The taillamps are arrow-shaped. According to the company, “These were designed to lead the eye beyond the vehicle itself and create a promise of movement and an invitation to the driver to get behind the wheel.”
Inside, the digital driver’s display and infotainment screen measure 10.25 inches. Sports seats are also present. Chery says a comprehensive list of modern technologies will come standard.
