Cape Town’s Atlantis Dunes recently played host to an adrenaline-pumping 4×4 Fun Day, hosted by Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM), where enthusiasts and families gathered for an action-packed adventure in the sandy playground.
Participants explored the dunes, tackling exciting challenges in their Toyota vehicles, ranging from SA’s best-selling bakkie, the Hilux (new and old), to the ever-popular Fortuner and more. The star of the show (in our humblest of opinions, seeing that we drove it) was the Hilux GR-Sport (GR-S, for short). It fared commendably.
The Hilux GR-S is equipped with an uprated version of Toyota’s well-known 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission. In this variant, the oil-burner churns out an additional 15 kW and 50 Nm of torque, resulting in a power output of 165 kW and 550 Nm, available from 3 000 r/min and a lowly 1 600 r/min, respectively. With an average fuel consumption rating of 8.0 L/100 km, the GR-S’s fuel economy is pretty much is on par with other contenders in the bakkie segment. The top speed is rated at 175 km/h.
With thrilling off-road experiences and the help of expert guidance, over 80 4x4s enjoyed an unforgettable day. Families bonded over the excitement of conquering the dunes.
The Atlantis 4×4 Fun Day, in partnership with Toyota, brought the thrill of 4×4 adventures to life, making memories that will last a lifetime. If you have never been, make sure to add this to your event calendar for 2024.
