Another week, another thrilling drag race from the folks over at British publication carwow. This time, carwow presenter and APEX contributor Mat Watson puts the BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupé up against a duo of its super-saloon siblings, the M5 CS and M5 Competition. Which Beemer will claim victory? Watch the video below… 

As a reminder, the trio of four-door BMWs is powered by the Munich-based manufacturer’s 4.4-litre V8 engine, though in various states of tune. In the M8 and M5 Competition, the twin-turbocharged unit produces 460 kW and 750 Nm of torque, the latter available from 1 800 r/min. In the flagship CS-badged M5, however, the petrol motor has been uprated to produce 7 kW more, making it the most powerful M car ever produced by the German marque. 

In terms of claimed acceleration times, the M5 CS boasts the quickest zero to 100 km/h sprint time of 3.0 seconds. The M8 Competition Gran Coupé and M5 Competition, meanwhile, blasts to the three-figure marker from a standstill in 3.2 seconds and 3.3 seconds respectively.
