Billed as the most advanced bakkie built by JAC Motors to date, the T9 has landed on South African shores, with the local arm of the Chinese automaker announcing pricing and spec for its range-topping double cab. Here’s what you can expect…

Priced from R529 900 (see full pricing below), the JAC T9 is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, endowed with 125 kW and 410 Nm of torque, the latter available from a lowly 1 500 r/min to 2 500 r/min. The “highly efficient” oil-burner is coupled with a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission.

JAC Motors claims an average fuel consumption of 7.8 L/100 km for the 4×2 and 4×4 models, the latter of which feature electronic part-time 4WD with low-range and a rear diff lock. Several driving modes are available, including Normal, Eco, Snow, and Sport.

Based on JAC Motors’ third-generation LCV platform, the T9 measures 5 330 mm in length, 1 965 mm in width, 1 920 mm in height, and 3 110 mm between the fore and aft axles. The ground clearance comes in at 210 mm. The approach and departure angles are 27 and 23 degrees, respectively.

Continuing with measurements, the “double-skinned” load bay, which is sprayed with an anti-scratch and corrosion-resistant bedliner, measures 1 520 mm x 1 590 mm x 470 mm. The payload is rated at 1 tonne. The braked towing mass is rated at 3 500 kg.

As standard, the firm’s pinnacle bakkie is equipped with Xenon headlamps, replete with LED daytime-running lights. Fog lamps are also present. The T9 sits on a set of two-tone 18-inch alloy wheels, wrapped in 265/60 tyres.

Stepping inside (via keyless entry), the seats are trimmed in hide, as is the adjustable multi-function steering wheel. The interior further features a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, incorporating Bluetooth connectivity and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto screen mirroring. Climate control, replete with rear vents, is included in the package. Also included are a 360-degree surround-view camera set-up (Super Lux trim), supplemented by rear parking sensors (the Super Lux gains front items as well); wireless smartphone charging; 220 V and 12 V power sockets; USB and USB-C ports, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. Cruise control is included.

The flagship Super Lux further features a tilt and sliding sunroof, privacy glass, roof rails, rain-sensing wipers, and heated front pews, which is electrically adjustable for both the driver and front passenger seats.

Safety items include six airbags, Isofix child-seat anchorages, traction control, electronic stability control, and hill-start assist. The ABS system features fore and aft disc brakes as standard.

Seven exterior colours are available. These are Star Grey, Metallic Grey, Silver, White, Black, Red, and Blue. Owners can also personalise their T9 with several accessories.
