In September this year, the new-generation Ford Mustang made its international premiere, along with the Mustang Dark Horse variant, the apex model in the line-up. The Blue Oval brand has now revealed the power output of the most powerful naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 Mustang.
Boasting a “uniquely” engineered version of the firm’s fourth-generation Coyote V8 engine, the Mustang Dark Horse’s atmospheric mill produces 373 kW and 567 Nm of torque, making it the most potent non-Shelby Ford Mustang edition ever. The redline sits at 7 500 r/min.
“This is our best 5.0-litre V8 yet. It’s naturally aspirated awesomeness”
To achieve these outputs, the US-based automaker has upgraded the petrol unit with a “uniquely balanced” crankshaft and forged piston connecting rods (the latter was first introduced to the mighty Mustang Shelby GT500). In addition, the camshafts have been strengthened to support the pinnacle Mustang’s track-durability needs.
“[The] Mustang has always pushed the envelope. From Mustang GT to Dark Horse, this is our best 5.0-litre V8 yet. It’s naturally aspirated awesomeness,” said Ed Krenz, Mustang chief engineer.
Suzanne Robinson, Coyote engine program supervisor, added: “With the increased responsiveness you get from the new dual throttle bodies, we’re wringing every ounce of performance we can out of our engine so Mustang enthusiasts can have that experience.”
