Ford South Africa has confirmed the local introduction of the new Ranger Wildtrak X, with the latest addition to the Blue Oval brand’s popular bakkie line-up scheduled to be showcased at this year’s NAMPO Harvest Day, which takes place from 16 to 19 May in the Free State.

According to Ford, the Ranger Wildtrak X “is truly unique from the standard Wildtrak range”. Based on the standard Ranger Wildtrak model, the X-badged variant features a wider stance, increased ground clearance, “purposeful” all-terrain tyres, wrapped around newly designed 17-inch alloy wheels, and Bilstein Position-Sensitive dampers, which the automaker says, “Provide ure-footed performance in all types of terrain.”

In addition, the Ranger Wildtrak X is also the first Ranger model equipped with Ford’s Trail Turn Assist, an “innovative” system applying brake pressure to the inside rear wheel to reduce the turning radius by “up to” 25 per cent. This system, which can be engaged in 4H and 4L and when the diff lock is unlocked, has been designed for loose surfaces at speeds of under 19 km/h.

The Ranger Wildtrak X is equipped with Ford’s familiar 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged diesel engine, coupled with the company’s 10-speed automatic transmission. The four-cylinder unit produces 154 kW and 500 Nm of torque.

“The Ranger Wildtrak range has been immensely popular in South Africa for more than a decade due to its trend-setting style, peerless status, innovative suite of driver assistance technologies and exceptional performance,” said Doreen Mashinini, General Manager for Marketing at Ford South Africa. “NAMPO and Ford South Africa have a long and proud history and we’re thrilled to be revealing the Wildtrak X at this year’s event to whet the appetite of those customers who push the boundaries of an active, outdoor lifestyle.”

As a reminder, the Ranger was not only SA’s best-selling bakkie in April 2023, but also the top-selling vehicle on our shores in the fourth month of this year. See the list here.
