Hyundai has announced it has added an automatic derivative to the local Atos line-up, with the South African arm of the Korean carmaker revealing pricing for its popular small hatchback. According to Stanley Anderson, sales and operations director at Hyundai Automotive South Africa, “the successful introduction of the manual derivative led us to examine an extension of the Atos offering by adding the new derivative.”

1.1-litre four-pot produces 50 kW.

The new, AMT (automatic manual transmission) variant comes in the shape of the Atos 1.1 in “Motion” level of specification. The five-speed AMT directs 50 kW and 99 N.m of torque, on tap from 5 500 r/min and 2 800 r/min, exclusively to the front axle. According to Hyundai, linked to the AMT, the 1.1-litre normally aspirated four-cylinder motor sips only 5.9 L/100 km.

As standard, the Atos 1.1 Motion AMT’s exterior features body coloured fore and aft bumpers and door handles, and a set of 14-inch steel wheels, complete with “attractive” covers. The exterior colour palette includes Fiery Red, Polar White, Titan Grey, Nicobar Blue and Typhoon Silver.

Measuring 3 610 mm nose to tail and 1 640 mm wide, the Atos’ bodywork, the Korean car manufacturer says, “houses a cabin that allows a lot of head space and leg room, with good visibility and ergonomics that ensures a comfortable ride”.

Included in the list of standard specification, the cabin features a 7.0-inch touch-enabled infotainment display, replete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen mirroring and Bluetooth connectivity; a multifunction steering wheel, and manually operated air conditioning. Standard safety items include airbags for the driver and front passenger, Isofix child-seat anchorages, and ABS.
