The Hyundai Elantra N has made its debut as the South Korean manufacturer’s first-ever high-performance sedan. Said Till Wartenberg, vice president and head of N brand management and motorsport sub-division at Hyundai Motor Company, “Hyundai Motor’s high-performance N brand constantly aims to provide customers with a range of exciting choices for increased driving pleasure. [The] Elantra N is the purest expression of our mission to date.”

Powered by the same 2,0 T-GDi engine as found in the i30 N and Kona N, the N-badged Elantra’s turbocharged 2,0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine produces 206 kW and 392 N.m. Power and torque are exclusively directed to the front wheels through Hyundai’s wet-type eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Thanks to the performance-focused Elantra’s N Grin Shift functionality, power can be increased by 7 kW for up to 20 seconds. According to the Seoul manufacturer, the Elantra N is capable of accelerating from zero to 100 km/h in “just” 5,3 seconds. Top speed, meanwhile, is a claimed 250 km/h.

A first for a Hyundai, the Elantra N features an integrated drive axle which, the brand says, is inspired by the technology used in WRC rally cars. For maximised driving pleasure, the first sedan to come from Hyundai’s performance division is equipped with, among others, launch control, an N Corner Carving electronic limited-slip differential and a variable exhaust valve system. The Elantra N’s 19-inch alloy wheels are fitted with 245/35 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres. Reigning in speed are a set of 360 mm brake discs featuring high-friction brake pads.
