Following an extended teaser campaign, DeLorean Motor Company has finally whipped the covers off a brand-new model. Meet the DeLorean Alpha5 …

“Designed with purpose”, the Alpha5’s sleek bodywork sits atop a set of large wheels. Slim front headlamps are integrated into the closed-off (remember, this is an EV) grille. The taillamps are similarly tapered and span the rear end. The sculpted exterior has an estimated drag coefficient of 0.23 Cd.

“The Alpha5 is for people that love to drive”

Opening the DMC-12-inspired gullwing doors reveals a minimalist cabin that wraps around the front occupants. The interior offers space for four people. A digital instrument cluster is sited atop the front facia for the driver, and a portrait-orientated infotainment screen can be found on the centre console.

The Alpha5’s battery offers a capacity of over 100 kWh. The high-capacity battery offers a claimed all-electric range of over 483 km. DeLorean says the Alpha5 sprints from zero to the 60 mph (96 km/h) marker in an estimated 2.99 seconds and from zero to 88 mph (142 km/h) in an estimated 4.35 seconds. The top speed is rated at (again, an estimated) 155 mph (249.4 km/h).

“We have been given the opportunity to re-imagine a brand that has meant so much to so many people from all corners of the globe for four decades. DeLorean has touched so many lives and set the stage for so many memories… we are all now witnessing a new chapter of this amazing story,” said Neilo Harris, vice president of brand and creative.

Joost de Vries, CEO of Delorean Motor Company, added: “The Alpha5 is for people that love to drive.”
