Jacob & Co. Has unboxed a brand-new addition to its Bugatti Chiron-inspired watch collection. Boasting a complication reminiscent of the Molsheim-based hypercar manufacturer’s W16 engine, the Chiron Blue Sapphire Crystal “combines fine art, high craftsmanship and exceptional mechanics”.

Pressing down the right crown activated the “ground-breaking” complication. Just like a true internal combustion engine, the crankshaft turns and 16 pistons pump up and down. Two “turbochargers” (down from the Chiron’s quad-turbocharger layout) on the side of the engine block spin while the engine runs. The latter feature adds to the visual impact. The unique unit sports a power reserve of 60 hours.

The timepiece sports a case that’s completely fashioned out of sapphire crystal. “It is one of the top achievements in high watchmaking,” said the Manhattan-based luxury watchmaker. “It was the result of several months of materials processing, high-level machinery and hand polishing to produce a case that exposes every part of the 578 hand-decorated and -assembled components of the JCAM37 calibre, making this timepiece every bit as admirable as the car that serves as its inspiration.”

As a reminder, in 2021, Bugatti announced the Chiron has entered the final stages of production, four years since the very first of 500 bespoke units left the French firm’s production plant in Molsheim. “Less than” 40 build slots are left to be allocated to the Pur Sport and Super Sport derivatives, while the final units of the Chiron and Chiron Sport are already spoken for. This limited-edition timepiece is, then, the perfect way to celebrate the hypercar’s heritage.
