Genevan luxury watchmaker Laurent Ferrier has unboxed a new iteration of its iconic “Série Atelier” timepiece, paying tribute to the rich history and passion the brand shares with the world of motor racing. Meet the Sport Auto 40…

Inspired by the Porsche 935 Turbo No. 40, the Sport Auto 40’s viridian green opaline dial is reminiscent of hue that adorned this Le Mans race car. Beautifully contrasting with the dial’s eye-catching colour, the small-seconds counter, sited at the 6 o’clock marker, is finished in matte-white opaline, and features the number “40”. The latter hue is carried over to the indices, which are crafted from from 18-carat white gold. A neat addtion to the indices, when it gets dark, these Super-LumiNova-treated items illuminate orange. The latter has also been applied to the “Sagaie”-shaped hour and minutes hands, which, like the indices, have been crafted from 18-carat white gold … as has the Baton-shaped seconds hand.

The case is crafted from grade 5 titanium, which hands the Sport Auto a robust yet lightweight feel. The 41.5 mm item features a screw-on case back. Inside, the luxury marque’s LF270.01 movement keeps time. Beating at 28 000 vph (4 Hz), the self-winding unit offers a power reserve of 72 hours. Water resistance is rated at 120 metres.

The timepiece is presented on a grade 5 titanium bracelet, replete with folding clasp fashioned from the same material. The Sport Auto 40 is priced at CHF 51 000, which, at the current Rand-Swiss Franc exchange rate, amounts to R1 053 525.
