Toyota has revealed the GR86 Special Edition, a limited-edition model celebrating the pure fun of sports car driving.

Based on the GR86 Premium, the special-edition variant is limited to only 860 units. Dressed in model-specific Solar Shift orange paintwork, the Special Edition “will leave an unforgettable visual impression”, Toyota says.

This model features a GR cat-back performance exhaust system, replete with stainless steel tailpipes and black chrome tips. Toyota says the addition of this set-up gives this derivative a deep, growling auditory signature.

It rides on matte-black 18-inch alloy wheels, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres. Further distinguishing the limited-edition version are visual cues such as unique decals.

As a reminder, the second-generation 86 is equipped with a 2.4-litre boxer engine producing 170 kW and 250 Nm of torque, available from 3 700 r/min. Toyota says this allows the six-speed manual-equipped GR86 to sprint to 60 mph (96 km/h) from a standstill in 6.1 seconds. Equipped with a six-speed electronically-controlled automatic, the GR86 reaches this marker in 6.6 seconds.
