Joining the Pik Up Karoo Dusk and recently-arrived Karoo Dawn in Mahindra South Africa’s bakkie line-up, the Karoo Storm is the third and final special-edition variant on local shores. According to the manufacturer, this model takes inspiration from the “stunning” Karoo rainstorms. See pricing below…

“Mahindra’s designers took their inspiration from similarly named poems, which richly capture the sudden unrest in the Karoo desert as the clouds build, the changing colour of the sky, how windmills start spinning wildly and the thunder cracks to announce an oncoming storm,” said the firm. “They also referenced the smell of wet desert soil and the eery calm that follows the quick but violent desert downpour.”

Celebrating this “special experience”, the Karoo Storm is dressed in a “unique” light blue hue. The “Karoo” decal set is finished in black and grey.

Like its Karoo Dusk and Dawn stablemates, the Karoo Storm sports factory-fitted approach and departure bumpers (the front item is fitted with LED lights) incorporating recovery and hitching points, 4×4 wheels with off-road tyres, and a rubberised load bed. “Hardy” rubber mats can be found in the cabin.

This model is, like its stablemates, equipped with the firm’s mHawk engine. The 2.2-litre turbodiesel unit churns out 103 kW and 320 Nm of torque.

In addition, this derivative is priced similarly to the Dusk and Dawn. Pricing comes in at R614 999, which includes a four-year/120 000 km warranty and a five-year/90 000 km service plan.
