Mahindra has announced that the recently revealed Scorpio-N is headed to South Africa, with the local arm of the car manufacturer saying the “go-anywhere” SUV will be available from 2023.

According to the firm, “The all-new Scorpio-N has been designed to redefine the D-segment SUV category with its dominating presence, head-turning design, commanding driving position and well-appointed interior.”

“It is equipped with the most sophisticated technologies”

The Scorpio-N will be available with two engine options, a petrol powertrain and an oil-burner. The former unit produces 149 kW and 380 Nm of torque. The mHawk diesel motor produces 129 kW and 400 Nm. Two transmission options are on offer, a six-speed manual gearbox and an automatic with a similar number of cogs. Four-wheel drive is also available.

Mahindra says the Scorpio-N is equipped with the most sophisticated technologies to offer benchmark driving dynamics. The new-generation body-on-frame architecture has been “optimised” to deliver “remarkable” levels of dynamism and handling capabilities. The rear suspension is of the watts link mechanism variety.

Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra South Africa, said, “We look forward to introducing our next-generation models here and welcoming more South Africans to the Mahindra family.”

Before arriving here, the Scorpio-N will first complete a “comprehensive” local testing programme.
