Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has confirmed the manual GR Supra is penned in for local introduction, with the local arm of the Japanese automaker announcing the revised range, comprising the 3.0-litre automatic and manual variants, will debut at The Festival of Motoring at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in August 2022.

TSAM says dealer ordering will open in May, with sales commencing in the third quarter of this year. Pricing will be announced at launch timing.

As a reminder, the three-pedal GR Supra’s six-speed intelligent manual transmission (iMT) and new clutch have been “engineered to specifically suit the power and torque characteristics of the 3.0-litre engine”. The six-speed manual gearbox is exclusively available with the 285 kW inline-six motor.

Toyota adds that the braking control set-up and suspension have been returned for “even better” performance. These changes, Toyota says, are being introduced throughout the model line-up. Thanks to a new Hairpin+ function, the driver is provided with more “freedom” and “reward”, specifically when taking tight bends on an uphill gradient.
