Mercedes-AMG has revealed the GT Track Series, the most powerful customer sports car ever created by the Affalterbach-based brand. In addition, like the G63 “Edition 55”, the limited-edition GT celebrates the firm’s 55th anniversary.
“The Mercedes AMG GT Track Series is the spiritual bridge to AMG founders Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher and their philosophy: making the best even better yet,” said the German marque. “The result is an uncompromised and exclusive performance car that is reflecting the automotive constructors’ art of Mercedes-AMG in a unique way.”
Based on the AMG GT Black Series, this race-ready variant is powered by AMG’s familiar 4.0-litre V8 engine. However, Mercedes-Benz’s performance arm tweaked the twin-turbocharged motor for this limited-edition model to produce a whopping 540 kW. Torque is rated at 850 Nm. The engine is coupled to a sequential Hewland HLS 6-speed racing gearbox, replete with an adjustable differential that transfers the power to the rear axle.
The AMG GT Track Series is equipped with adjustable Bilstein dampers. Each damper sports a high-speed and low-speed setting in the rebound and compression levels and also allows for ride height adjustments. The anti-roll bars are adjustable to ensure an individual setup.
According to Mercedes-AMG, “The design and the aerodynamics of the Mercedes‑AMG GT Track Series strictly follow the performance philosophy as well.” The bonnet, wings, sills, and rear apron are fashioned from carbon fibre and “largely contribute” to the high driving dynamics.
The AMG GT Track Series tips the scales at a claimed 1 400 kg. Only 55 units will be produced.
