Mercedes-Benz has revealed the Concept EQT, a near-series-production concept compact van combining a spacious interior with high-class appeal and “Mercedes-typical” design language. Said the German manufacturer, with the Concept EQT “Mercedes-Benz Vans is translating the V-Class’ recipe for success into a compact format”.
“Immediately recognisable” as a member of the Mercedes-EQ family, the Concept EQT “is a new, holistic van with the design DNA of ‘sensual purity’,” Gorden Wagener, chief design officer at Daimler Group, says. “Sensuous shapes, elegant trims and sustainable materials show that this van clearly belongs to our Mercedes-EQ family.” Measuring 4 945 mm long, 1 863 mm wide and 1 826 mm tall, the Concept EQT’s muscular design, Mercedes says, underlines the van’s power and emotive appeal.
The front end is distinguished by Mercedes-EQ’s characteristic black panel, which features a “gleaming” star pattern and incorporates LED headlamps. A light strip outlines the bottom of the panel. A light strip can also be found between the LED taillamps. The different-sized 3D-effect stars are carried over to the five-spoke 21-inch light-alloy wheels and the panoramic sunroof.
The interior, the Stuttgart carmaker says, “is as much an emotional and stylish statement as its exterior”. The interior is characterised by contrasting black and white trim. The seats are upholstered in white nappa leather, with the centre panel of the seats comprising recycled hide. Mercedes describes the appearance of the upper section of the instrument panel as “seashore pebble”, while the multifunction steering wheel, round air vents, galvanised trim elements and ambient lighting underline the high-quality, modern appearance and stylish atmosphere of the cabin. The dashboard-mounted touch display features Mercedes’ familiar MBUX infotainment software.
