Mercedes-Maybach has unveiled two limited anniversary editions, the GLS Edition 100 and S-Class Edition 100, to mark the German luxury marque’s centennial.
The Edition 100 GLS and S-Class celebrates the luxury manufacturer’s 100th anniversary with characteristic Maybach hallmarks, such as “impressive” radiator grilles; hand-painted two-tone exterior paintwork, comprising high-tech silver and nautical blue hues; and several “Edition 100” badges adorn the exterior to remind the owner this is indeed a special model from the Three-pointed Star brand. The latter badging is carried over to the hub caps. The forged wheels of the GLS and alloys of the S-Class are finished in a new grey finish.
The cabin is lavishly upholstered in “special” leather and finished in designo crystal white and silver grey pearl hues. The GLS Edition 100’s interior is soundproofed, while electrically extendable running boards ensure maximum comfort when getting in and out. Air suspension concludes the GLS Edition 100 package.
The S-Class Edition 100 features a noise-insulated “first-class” rear compartment, replete with a Burmester 4D surround sound system, heat and massage functions for the seats and “high-tech infotainment displays. Compared to the long-wheelbase version of the S-Class, the Edition 100 model has an 180 mm longer wheelbase and is equipped with all-wheel drive for the first time.
“It’s about the passionate combination of every detail, no matter how small, that makes a luxury car a Maybach – all in combination with state-of-the-art technology from Mercedes-Benz,” Philipp Schiemer, head of top end vehicle group Mercedes-Benz AG and CEO Mercedes-AMG GmbH, says. “Every Mercedes-Maybach stands for Sophisticated Luxury in all its facets – for our customers who are looking for something very special.”
Combining a “sporty” appearance with the luxury of a saloon, the GLS Edition 100 is powered by Affalterbach’s 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol motor which, here, produces 410 kW. The S-Class Edition 100, meanwhile, is endowed with a 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged V12 petrol engine, developing 450 kW. Only 100 units of each Edition 100 will be built.
