Signifying a new era for the German luxury marque, Mercedes-Maybach has whipped the wraps off its first all-electric model, the EQS 680 SUV. Here’s what you can expect from the emissions-free luxury SUV…
“The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV is a milestone in our brand history. For us, it embodies nothing less than the redefinition of automotive excellence in the age of electromobility. Our customers can look forward to an absolutely top-class electric driving experience – with the aura of the extraordinary that is typical of Maybach,” said Daniel Lescow, Head of Mercedes-Maybach, Mercedes-Benz Group AG.
Said Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management Mercedes-Benz Group AG, “Mercedes-Maybach customers expect the extraordinary, and we aim to exceed their high expectations. The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV unites our ambition to lead in digital and electric with our focus on the luxury segment. The very first all-electric vehicle from Mercedes-Maybach complements the best technologies from Mercedes-Benz with the extra comfort and individual details that are only available from Mercedes-Maybach,”
Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV exterior
Defining its status, the first-ever battery-powered Maybach features several model-specific exterior design elements typical of the brand. The front end is characterised by a Maybach-specific black panel, replete with vertical, chrome-plated trim strips. Flanking the closed off panel, the standard-fitment Digital Light headlamps feature a light strip spanning the front end. “Maybach” lettering is discreetly incorporated into a decorative chrome strip. Chrome-plated slats can also be found on the front air intake. The chrome finishes extend to the side-window surrounds and B-pillar. The rear end is characterised by a continuous light strip. The EQS 680 SUV is available with “exclusive” alloy wheels, measuring 21 to 22 inches.
For those wanting a more, let’s say, sinister look, Mercedes-Maybach offers the (optional) Night Series package. This package features dark chrome elements, which, the firm says, catch light like a cut jewel. Darkened Maybach pinstripes “enhance the grille panel”, the company says. The dark trim bits are contrasted by rose gold finishes on the headlamps.

Stepping inside through the (standard-fitment) automatic opening (and closing) doors, reveals an opulant cabin. The interior features the automaker’s MBUX Hyperscreen, replete with Mercedes-Maybach-specific graphics and animations, as standard. The rear compartment features Mercedes’ MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment, comprising two 11.6-inch displays, sited on the front seats’ backrests. An MBUX tablet, which can also be used outside the vehicle, is also present, as is MBUX Interior Assist. Ambient ligthing is included. For audiophiles, a 15-speaker Burmester 4D surround-sound system, complete with 3D speakers in the headliner, is standard. The Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV is the first vehicle from Benz to feature vegetable-tanned leather.
Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer Mercedes-Benz Group AG, added: “At Mercedes-Maybach we strive to add the shine of the extraordinary to the beautiful. The interior is an emotional and stylish statement. The lounge character promises luxurious travel at the highest level. Together with the innovative, progressive SUV proportions, we are completely redefining the SUV luxury of the future.”
