The new Audi S8 has touched down on South African shores, with the local arm of the German marque announcing pricing and spec for its flagship saloon. See pricing below…
Specifications
As standard, the S8 ships with digital LED matric headlamps and OLED rear combination lamps with digital signatures. The alloy wheels measure 21 inches. A panoramic sunroof is also included. Onto the interior, the S8’s list of no-cost items consists of a head-up display, Audi’s virtual cockpit Plus and MMI infotainment set-up, a 360-degree camera system and four-zone climate control. A Bang & Olufson premium sound system with 3D sound is also present. The Valcona leather-trimmed front and rear pews offer heating functionality. The front seats also feature ventilation and a massage function.
The options list comprises the Black Appearance package (R20 000) for the exterior. For the interior, the firm offers the rear seat package (comprising individual pews) for R60 000 and rear-passenger displays (R33 500). A Bang & Olufson Advanced 3D sound system can be had for R105 000. The extended leather package is priced at R28 500.
Powertrain
The Ingolstadt-based brand’s 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine beats beneath the bonnet. The TFSI unit produces 420 kW and 800 Nm of torque, the latter available from a lowly 2 050 r/min to 4 500 r/min. Power and torque are directed to the firm’s quattro all-wheel-drive system via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Audi claims the luxury saloon completes the obligatory 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.8 seconds.
Pricing
The S8 is priced from R2 759 000. As standard, Audi’s five-year/100 000 km ‘Freeway’ plan is included.
