Continuing its focus on adding “highly appealing” special-edition models to its product portfolio, BMW has whipped the wraps off the box-fresh M3 CS. According to the Bavarian brand, the latest version of its performance sedan brings even greater intensity to the racing allure.
Under the new M3 CS’s bonnet sits BMW’s familiar inline-six turbocharged engine, tuned to deliver the same power output as the M4 CSL at 405 kW (up 30 kW from the standard M3 Competition and available from 6 250 r/min) to all four corners via the firm’s M xDrive all-wheel-drive system via an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission. The torque figure of 650 Nm is available from “just” 2 750 r/min to 5 950 r/min. The engine speed tops out at 7 200 r/min.
The German marque claims these figures are enough for the M3 CS to dispatch the 0-100B km/h sprint in 3.4 seconds and reach the 200 km/h marker from a standstill in 11.1 seconds. With the M Driver’s package as standard, the maximum speed is electronically limited to 302 km/h.
In addition, the M3 CS features bespoke chassis tuning and track tyres as standard. Stopping power is provided by M Carbon ceramic brakes housed in 19-inch fore and 20-inch aft M light-alloy wheels.
BMW says the M3 CS’s model-specific lightweight design plays a significant part in moulding its performance qualities and exclusive character. In addition to several carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) items, the roof is fashioned from carbon fibre. The company says these measures have saved 20 kg of weight (compared to the standard model).
