Volkswagen has again teased the soon-to-be-revealed next-generation Amarok. In the footage, which showcases the premium double-cab bakkie’s “innovative” LED lighting technology, the Wolfsburg-based brand gives viewers a glimpse of the upcoming version. Watch the teaser footage below…

Amarok

Scheduled to make its global premiere on 7 June 2022, the new Amarok measures “at least” 100 mm longer and 175 mm wider than its forebear. The payload has increased by “up to” 1.2 tonnes.

As a reminder, VW has announced that the locally built bakkie will be available with the option of one petrol engine and “up to” a quartet of oil-burners, ranging from 2.0-litre four-cylinder to 3.0-litre six-cylinder units. However, local engine options are yet to be confirmed, as are power and torque outputs. VW has, however, confirmed that both rear-wheel- and four-wheel-drive variants would be on offer.

In addition, the German marque has announced that the new version will be offered with the option of five trim grades. These include ‘Amarok’, ‘Life’ and ‘Style’. Two range-topping models — the ‘PanAmericana’, which takes on a more off-road approach, and ‘Aventura’, which takes on a more on-road approach — will also be available. As with the engine line-up, local levels of specification are yet to be confirmed.

“The new Amarok will already be recognisable as a genuine VW”

The cabin will feature a tablet-style infotainment display. An exclusive sound system and leather-look interior finishes with decorative stitching are also available. With the release of the short video clip (below), VW has also announced that the new model will feature LED headlamps as standard, with higher specification models gaining ‘IQ.Light’ LED matrix units.

“With its high-tech lights, the new Amarok will already be recognisable as a genuine VW a long way off and at the same time will display a unique light signature,” said Albert Kirzinger, head of the design team at VW Commercial Vehicles.
