Mercedes-Benz South Africa has released pricing and specifications for the new-generation Mercedes-AMG C43. See pricing below…

Mercedes-AMG C43

As standard, the new Mercedes-AMG C43 sports several AMG-specific details underscoring its “dynamic” and “luxurious” character. These items include the AMG-specific radiator grille, AMG front apron, “sporty” air intakes and chrome-finished trim elements. Two round twin-tailpipe housings can be found at the back. The standard (AMG light-alloy) wheels measure 18 inches, while 19- and 20-inch items are available as an option.

The cabin features AMG seats, trimmed in Artico artificial leather/Microcut microfibre in black with red contrast stitching. The seat belts are also finished in the latter hue. Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment system includes several AMG-specific displays — in the instrument cluster, portrait-orientated touchscreen infotainment system or optional head-up display — and functions (as we saw during a passenger drive in a prototype Mercedes-AMG C43).

Mercedes-AMG C43

As a reminder, the box-fresh Mercedes-AMG C43 boasts an electrified 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbopetrol powertrain producing 300 kW and 500 Nm of torque (available from 6 750 r/min and 5 000 r/min, respectively), sent to Benz’s 4Matic all-wheel-drive system, which features AMG-specific torque distribution between the fore and aft axles (31 to 69 per cent) via the automaker’s nine-speed AMG Speedshift automatic transmission featuring a wet multi-disc start-off clutch. According to the company, the rear-biased all-wheel-drive set-up provides enhanced dynamic handling, including higher lateral acceleration and improved traction.

The belt-driven starter generator (RSG), which Mercedes says acts as a mild hybrid, provides 10 kW of additional boost depending on the situation. The second-generation RSG also provides functions such as gliding and recuperation for “maximum” efficiency. Benz says the 48 V tech increases comfort.

The all-new Mercedes-AMG C43 completes the obligatory 0-100 km/h sprint in “just” 4.6 seconds before topping out at an electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h. However, specifying the optional AMG Driver’s Package raises the maximum speed by 15 km/h to 265 km/h. The manufacturer says the inline-four powertrain sips 9.1-8.7 L/100 km on the WLTP cycle.

Stopping performance is provided by an AMG sports braking system featuring internally ventilated and perforated brake discs. The four-piston fixed front callipers measure 370 mm, and the one-piston floating callipers at the rear measure 320 mm.

The Mercedes-AMG C43 is fitted with an AMG exhaust system, which, Mercedes says, “Depending on the drive program selected, the noise level ranges from balanced and discreet to emotionally sporty.” The sound characteristics are controlled via an exhaust gas flap. Customers can also specify the optional AMG Real Performance Sound.
