Mercedes-Benz has confirmed the local launch date for the new-generation C63, with the local arm of the German marque revealing to APEX that the recently revealed C63 S E Performance will make its way to our shores during the first quarter of 2023.

Compared to the non-AMG C-Class models, the C63’s AMG body shell is 50 mm longer and the front wings wider.

As a reminder, for the C63 S E Performance, the Three-pointed Star brand has ditched the previous model’s 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine for an electrified four-pot. The 350 kW/545 Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged unit is coupled with a 150 kW/320 Nm electric motor for a combined output of 500 kW and 1 020 Nm of torque.

“The new C63 S E Performance is a technological masterpiece that takes a new approach”

The petrol-electric arrangement is mated with AMG’s nine-speed AMG Speedshift MCT transmission, which directs power to the Affalterbach-based firm’s 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system.

As standard, the AMG 63 S-badged C rides on 19-inch alloys.

The Affalterbach automaker claims the new (2 111 kg) C63 S E Performance sprints to the three-figure marker from a standstill in 3.4 seconds. The top speed is electronically governed to 250 km/h but can be lifted to 280 km/h as an option.

The claimed fuel consumption figure is 6.9 L/100 km. Mercedes says the C63 can travel up to 13 km on electric power alone.

Power is sent to all four wheels.

“With its Performance hybrid drive and electrically assisted exhaust turbocharger, the new C63 S E Performance is a technological masterpiece that takes a new approach,” said Jochen Hermann, Chief Technical Officer of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

“It again illustrates the high level of technical expertise that AMG possesses”

“The electrified powertrain offers a whole new driving experience. The immediate response of the electric drive at the rear axle, the rapid torque build-up, the fast power output, and the draw of our battery are very special features. Add to this the standard-fit rear axle steering and the fully variable all-wheel drive with Drift Mode – the new C63 again illustrates the high level of technical expertise that AMG possesses.”
