Mercedes-Benz South Africa has revealed pricing, spec and options for the new AMG SL 43 on its website, with the local arm of the German marque listing the four-cylinder SL on its website. See pricing below…
STANDARD EQUIPMENT
EXTERIOR: For starters, LED headlamps (replete with active high-beam assist) flank the grille. The AMG SL 43 sits on 19-inch AMG alloys finished in Grey. The wheels house silver brake callipers, which form part of the AMG high-performance compound brake system. Sports suspension is included in the package. The fabric soft-top is black (red or grey can be had at an additional R8 142). In addition, the AMG SL 43 features Merc’s Mirror package, comprising electronically folding side mirrors and an automatically dimming rear-view mirror.
INTERIOR: Stepping inside, the AMG SL 43’s cabin features a digital instrument cluster, an 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system incorporating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen mirroring and the MBUX Navigation Premium package, and wireless smartphone charging. Benz’s THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control system is also present, as is heating functionality for the front seats and AIRSCARF neck-level heating. The AMG Performance multifunction steering wheel is wrapped in Nappa leather. The AMG trim elements are finished in high-gloss black. Tyre pressure monitoring is included, among several other items. Safety items include active brake assist, blind-spot monitoring, cruise control, ISOFIX child-seat anchorages and the firm’s PRE-SAFE system.
OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT
EXTERIOR: For more “expressive” styling, the AMG SL 43 can be specified with the V8 Exterior Styling package (R59 030). Among other items, with this package, the four-cylinder roadster’s front and rear aprons and side sill panels feature a similar look to those found on the V8 models. Mercedes also offers five additional packages. These include the AMG Night Package II (R11 195), which features black chrome trim elements; the AMG Night package (R15 266), which adds more high-gloss black and black chrome finishes to the drop-top; the AMG Exterior Chrome package (R19 337), which adds an elegant touch to the AMG SL 43 with high-gloss chrome elements; the AMG Aerodynamics Package (R56 994), which adds aero-enhancing features, and the AMG Exterior Carbon package (R97 704), which, as its name suggests, adds carbon-fibre trim to the exterior. In addition to the standard-fitment 19-inch alloys, Benz offers six additional wheel options, ranging from 19 inches to 21 inches in size and R17 302 to R91 598 in price. Rear-axle steering is available for R38 675.
INTERIOR: The list of optional interior items includes AMG Performance seats (R39 692), a head-up display (R20 151), MBUX augmented reality for navigation (R6 107), Burmester surround sound (R24 222) and a Burmester high-end 3D surround sound system (R99 740).
POWERTRAIN
The four-cylinder sibling to the V8-powered SL63 and SL55 is endowed with a 2.0-litre engine, sending 280 kW (10 kW of boost is available for short durations) and 480 Nm of torque exclusively to the rear axle via Benz’s nine-speed AMG Speedshift transmission. According to Mercedes, these figures allow the 1 810 kg roadster to sprint to the three-figure marker from a standstill in 4.9 seconds before topping out at an electronically governed maximum speed of 275 km/h
“The new Mercedes-AMG SL 43 is now the very first series-produced vehicle with an electric exhaust gas turbocharger,” said Philipp Schiemer, chairman of the board of management of Mercedes‑AMG GmbH. “With this technology, the SL also has an outstanding performance range in its entry-level version. This means that our seemingly smallest SL combines the typical AMG Driving Performance with luxury and comfort at the absolute top level.”
