Billed as a new lightweight sports car, Porsche has whipped the wraps off the 992-generation 911 Carrera T.

Bookended by the 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera S, the box-fresh T-badged variant is equipped with the German marque’s 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six, here in the same state of tune as the 911 Carrera. The horizontally opposed boxer motor produces 283 kW and 450 Nm of torque. As standard, the engine is coupled with a seven-speed manual gearbox. However, an eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission is also available.

The company says the manual-equipped 911 Carrera T is the lightest series-production 911 with an “entry-level” engine. At 1 470 kg, the T weighs 35 kg less than the model it is based on, the 911 Carrera (with its standard eight-speed PDK). Weight has been saved thanks to the omission of rear seats and the reduction of noise insulation. The fitment of lightweight glass and a lightweight battery further shaves off weight.

Porsche claims the 911 Carrera T sprints to the three-figure marker from a standstill in 4.5 seconds before reaching a top speed of 291 km/h.

As standard, the T is equipped with Porsche’s Sport Chrono package and PASM sports suspension, which lowers the ground clearance by 10 mm. Rear-axle steering is available as an option. The new addition is fitted with 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels wrapped in 245/35 (fore) and 305/30 (aft) rubber.

In addition, the rear-engined sports car features “exclusive” details outside and in. These include Dark Grey exterior elements and a high-gloss black sports exhaust system. The cabin features four-way Sports Seats Plus, decorative trim in matte black, and inlays in high-gloss black.

As a reminder, the “T” in the model designation stands for touring and traces its history back to the homologation of the 911 T as a touring car in 1968. This first 911 T was offered until 1973, and in 2017 Porsche revived the “purist” 911 variant with the 911 Carrera T of the 991 model line. Other T-badged models in the firm’s line-up include the 718 Cayman T, 718 Boxster T, and the Macan T (see local pricing here), the first SUV to don the T badge.
