Volkswagen has confirmed the reveal date of the second-generation Amarok, with the German car manufacturer announcing that the new model will make its global debut on 7 July 2022.
Compared to its predecessor, the upcoming VW double-cab bakkie measures “at least” 100 mm longer at 5 350 mm and 175 mm wider at 3 270 mm. According to the Wolfsburg-based automaker, the off-road capabilities of the new Amarok are further enhanced by a greater fording depth. At the same time, the payload has increased to “up to” 1.2 tonnes.
The South African-built bakkie will be available with the option of one petrol engine and “up to” a quartet of diesel motors. The oil-burners will be offered in four- and six-cylinder guises with cubic capacities of 2.0 to 3.0 litres. In addition, the box-fresh Amarok will be available with the option of rear-wheel drive and on-demand or permanent all-wheel-drive drivetrains.
Five trim levels will be on offer. The entry-level version is the ‘Amarok’, with the following two grades being the ‘Life’ and ‘Style’ derivatives. VW will also offer two range-topping variants, the ‘PanAmericana’, which takes on a more off-road approach, and ‘Aventura’, which takes on a more on-road approach.
The cabin will feature a tablet-style infotainment display. An exclusive sound system and leather-look interior finishes with decorative stitching are also available.
