Polestar has confirmed that its electric roadster concept is going into production, with the Swedish automaker saying that the production version — named ‘Polestar 6’ — is expected to launch in 2026. The firm further says interested customers (in all active Polestar markets) can reserve their cars online from 16 August 2022.
The hard-top convertible will be built on the company’s “bespoke” bonded aluminium platform. The roadster will feature the same “high-performance” 800 V electric architecture as its upcoming four-door GT sibling, the Polestar 5. This includes a power output of “up to” 650 kW and 900 Nm from its dual electric motor powertrain.
“It’s a perfect combination of performance and the thrill of fresh air with the top down”
The automaker says it targets a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h. However, the brand says the final spec will be released closer to the expected launch date.
To celebrate the launch, 500 numbered units of a “special” ‘LA Concept’ version are planned for production. These models will feature “unique” Sky blue exterior paintwork, a light leather interior and “unique” 21-inch wheels of the original O2 concept car.
“With the overwhelming consumer and press response, we took the decision to put this stunning roadster into production, and I am so excited to make it a reality,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO. “[The] Polestar 6 is a perfect combination of powerful electric performance and the thrill of fresh air with the top down.”
