The Ford Mustang California Special has touched down on South African shores, with the local arm of the Blue Oval brand revealing pricing for the limited-edition Mustang. See pricing below…
Channelling the spirit of the iconic 1968 model, the Mustang California Special is limited to only 100 units locally. According to Ford SA, the special-edition model is “built for enthusiasts”.
So, what sets this special edition apart from its standard stablemates? For starters, the California Special “reflects” the original model’s design cues. It features a black honeycomb front grille, a red “GT/CS” badge in Race Red, and lower side stripers, finished in black. The decals span from the from to the rear wings and feature a “hidden” “California Special” script.
Available in only Fastback format, the new Mustang California Special is equipped with Ford’s 5.0-litre V8. Coupled with the firm’s familiar 10-speed automatic transmission, the naturally aspirated petrol unit directs 330 kW and 529 Nm of torque exclusively to the rear (19-inch) wheels. The alloys are finished in Carnonised Grey. Ford claims a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 4.5 seconds. An active valve performance exhaust system provides the V8 soundtrack. The quad tailpipes measure 4.5 inches in diameter each.
Housed within the front wheels are 380 mm ventilated discs, replete with six-piston fixed aluminium Brembo callipers. The rear brakes measure 330 mm and feature floating Brembo callipers.

The Mustang California Special is priced at R1 154 900. Ford SA’s four-year/120 000 km warranty is included in the asking price. Customers can purchase a service or maintenance plan of up to eight years or 150 000 km.
