Mahindra South Africa has introduced another special edition to its Pik Up line-up. Joining the Karoo Dusk in the range, meet the Karoo Dawn … (See pricing below.)
Inspired by the colours of the early Karoo mornings, the Pik Up Karoo Dawn’s bodywork is dressed in a sandy beige hue. According to the automaker, “[It] tasked its designers to capture the colours of the desert in the early morning in the design of the Karoo Dawn, leading to the unique body colour and the rich orange highlights in the Karoo decals.”
The Karoo Dawn features a “heavy-duty” off-road suspension set-up and “hardened” 4×4 wheels wrapped in off-road rubber. Steel bumpers can be found at the front and rear of the bakkie. Mahindra says these items have been securely anchored to the chassis. The bumpers also feature recovery and hitching points. The front bumper is fitted with “special” LED lamps. The rear step is trimmed with non-slip plating. The load bed is rubberised.
Under the bonnet, the Karoo Dawn is equipped with Mahindra’s mHawk turbodiesel engine. The 2.2-litre oil-burner produces 103 kW and 320 Nm of torque, available from 3 750 r/min and a lowly 1 500 r/min, respectively. The powertrain is coupled with a six-speed Aisin automatic transmission.
Priced at R614 999, the Karoo Dawn ships with the company’s four-year/120 000 km warranty. A five-year/90 000 km service plan is included.
