The Mahindra XUV700 has finally launched on local shores, “heralding in an entirely new range of models that will arrive in the next six months”. See pricing below…

The Mahindra XUV700 is the first model in the carmaker’s line-up adorning its new ‘Twin Peaks’ logo. According to the firm, it also welcomes an entirely new phase for the brand. “With its power and capabilities, the XUV700 allows every family to explore their active living,” said Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra South Africa.

Specification

The local line-up kicks off with the (five-seater) AX5. This model ships with two 10.2-inch displays, one for infotainment and the other for the instruments. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. The company’s ‘Skyroof’ panoramic sunroof is also present. The AX5 rides on 17-inch alloys. A quartet of airbags can be found in this variant. 

The AX7 sports a seven-seat seating arrangement. In addition to the items found in the Mahindra XUV700 AX5, this variant features dual-zone climate control and several driver-assistance systems. These include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking and lane-departure warning. This variant is fitted with 18-inch alloys. 

On top of the abovementioned items, the range-topping AX7 L gains a 12-speaker 3D sound system, a 360-degree surround-view camera set-up and a blind-spot monitoring system. Wireless charging is also present. This model features seven airbags.

Powertrain

One engine option is employed across the three-strong local line-up. This is Mahindra’s 2.0 mStallion turbocharged petrol engine. The 2.0-litre unit produces 149 kW and 380 Nm of torque, available from 5 000 r/min and 1 750 r/min, respectively. The powertrain is exclusively coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission.

As standard, all models ship with a five-year/100 000 km service plan and warranty of similar duration and distance. Pre-orders kick off on 15 November 2022, with a first-come, first-served policy until 30 November 2022. Each of the first 700 customers who place an order online and completes a pre-order will receive a unique code that will be confirmed in the order books. Suppose the customer pays their fully-refundable deposit at a dealer. In that case, they can choose from a free service plan and warranty extension of “up to” seven years or a package comprising a R3 000 fuel card, custom-fitted side steps and a tow bar.
