Boasting bold new looks, the fourth-generation Hyundai Tucson has launched in South Africa. See pricing and specification below…

TucsonCompared to its third-generation forebear, the new version measures 4 630 mm bow to stern (up by 150 mm), 1 865 mm wide (an increase of 15 mm) and 5 mm taller. The Tucson’s wheelbase has also grown, with the latest model’s measuring 2 755 mm (up by 85 mm) axle to axle.

Thanks to the increase in size, the boot space now swallows 539 litres, which is 51 litres more than before. Ground clearance has increased by 9 mm to 181 mm.

The new Tucson is available with the option of three levels of specification. The trim levels include entry-level Premium, mid-tier Executive and range-topping Elite.

Specified in premium guise, the Tucson rides on a set of 17-inch alloy wheels. Executive and Elite trim upgrade to 18- and 19-inch items, respectively. Further included with the Executive and Elite models are LED headlamps. LED rear combination lamps are exclusive to the Elite derivatives, as is a panoramic sunroof.

The interior of Executive and Elite variants are trimmed in leather. As standard, all models feature an 8.0-inch infotainment system, complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen-mirroring functionality.

Further convenience items include a multifunction steering wheel and a rear-view camera. Wireless smartphone charging is also found inside. The front pews offer heating functionality (Elite models gain ventilated functionality as well).

Executive and Elite trims feature leather upholstery. A 10.2-inch Supervision instrument cluster is exclusively available on the Elite.

A duo of engine options is on offer, a 2.0-litre petrol and a diesel unit of similar displacement. The four-cylinder petrol motor is coupled to a six-speed self-shifter and produces 115 kW and 192 Nm of torque. This engine option is available in all three trim levels.

The four-cylinder oil-burner is exclusively available in Elite trim level. Coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the diesel engine produces 137 kW and 416 Nm, the latter available from a lowly 2 000 r/min.

As standard, all models ship with Hyundai’s seven-year/200 000 km warranty and a six-year/90 000 km service plan.
