Billed as the most exclusive (indeed, it’s only available on our shores and in limited numbers) van ever released by Mercedes-Benz Vans South Africa, the V-Class Special EDITION offers an even more prestigious experience than its standard stablemates, the automaker says. “The V-Class Special EDITION makes a statement at every turn.”

The V-Class Special EDITION is based on the V300d, thus endowed with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine producing 174 kW and 550 Nm of torque, the latter available from a lowly 1 600 r/min. Power is sent to the rear axle via Benz’s 9G-tronic nine-speed automatic transmission.

The Three-pointed Star brand claims an average fuel consumption figure of 8.0 L/100 km. The 0-100 km/h sprint time is 7.8 seconds. The top speed is rated at 220 km/h.

But what sets this special-edition V-Class apart from its standard stablemates? Well, for starters, it can be had in Sodalite Blue Metallic (seen here), which is exclusive to this variant. Two other colour options are also available. The exterior features several black trim elements, which, Mercedes says, “Give it a superbly sleek and sophisticated allure.” In addition, the V-Class Special EDITION is equipped with an “eye-catching” roof box from the AMG range.

Inside, the seats are upholstered in leather. Ambient lighting is also included among the myriad other standard features, which includes a 640 W Burmester surround sound system relaying tunes through 15 speakers. Temperature-controlled cup holders and a 3.2-litre refrigerated compartment are also present.

The V-Class Special EDITION is priced at R2 190 000. Pricing includes a five-year/100 000 km warranty and a seven-year/140 000 km maintenance plan.
