The new Subaru Crosstrek has arrived on local shores. Here’s what you can expect, including pricing and spec, for the XV’s replacement.
SUBARU CROSSTREK ENGINE
Based on the Japanese carmaker’s revised Subaru Global Platform, the Crosstrek employs a 2.0-litre four-cylinder boxer engine, coupled with the firm’s now “quieter” and “more efficient”Lineartronic CVT, replete with eight pre-set steps. Paddle shifters allow for manual operation. Subaru claims the naturally aspirated flat-four sips 7.2 L/100 km. The liquid-cooled powertrain produces 115 kW and 196 Nm of torque — available from 6 000 r/min and 4 000 r/min — sent to all four wheels via Subaru’s ‘X-Mode’ off-road management system. The driver-selectable set-up features Snow/Dirt, Deep snow and Mud modes. Active torque vectoring is also present.
SUBARU CROSSTREK SPECIFICATIONS
The local line-up currently comprises two variants, the iL and flagship iS. As standard, all models ship with keyless entry, multi-function driver’s display and a portrait-orientated 11.6-inch infotainment system, replete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Dual-zone climate control is also standard across the range. Tyre pressure monitoring is included.
The iL further features a reverse-view camera system, supplemented by rear park distance sensors, blind-spot monitoring, lane-change assist and Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assistance set-up. The iL’s headlamps are of the LED variety, and features halogen daytime-running lights. The iL sits on a set of 17-inch alloys.
In addition to the above items, the iS gains leather-trimmed seats (the iL features cloth pews), complete with eight-way electric adjustability and lumbar support, and a panoramic sunroof. The DRLs upgrade to LED items. In addition, the iS also features a 360-degree surround-view camera system and front-view monitor. The iS rides on 18-inch alloys.
