The updated Suzuki Ertiga has landed in South Africa, with the local arm of the Japanese automaker simplifying the local line-up to now feature only three models with upgraded specification levels.

“We have realised that the current economic climate places a lot of pressure on the types of families and businesses that would buy an Ertiga. And so, we decided to simplify the range and upgrade the specifications of the remaining models,” says Brendon Carpenter, brand marketing manager of Suzuki Auto South Africa.

So, which models remain? Well, Suzuki SA has decided to discontinue the range-topping GLX models in favour of keeping only the entry-level GA and mid-tier GL trim grades. However, now sitting at the top of the line-up, the GL has received an array of additional specs. But let’s start with the revised GA…

Available with only a five-speed manual transmission, the updated GL model has gained an electronic stability programme (ESP). Dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and brake assist are standard on this variant and across the range. Isofix child-seat anchorages are also present. Further included are halogen projector headlamps, electric windows and ventilated cup holders.

Available with a five-speed manual ‘box and four-speed automatic transmission, the GL-equipped Ertiga upgrades to a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. These models further gain a reverse-view camera. Cruise control is present, too, and operated via a multifunction steering wheel. The GL-specified Ertiga also features air conditioning for the rear passengers.

As a reminder, the Ertiga is equipped with the company’s 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. The normally aspirated unit produces 77 kW and 138 Nm of torque.

As standard, all Ertiga derivatives ship with Suzuki’s four-year/60 000 km service plan. A five-year/200 000 km warranty is included in the price.
