Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has introduced a brand-new derivative to the Corolla Cross range, handing the locally-built crossover the GR-S treatment. Priced at R453 200, meet the Corolla Cross GR-S…

Corolla Cross GR-S

So, what sets this variant apart from its non-GR-S stablemates? Well, for starters, the Corolla Cross GR-S features a bespoke exterior package. A trio of two-tone exterior paint colour options are available. These include Chromium Silver, Glacier White, and Arizona Red. A black contrast roof is standard with all three hues. Of course, as this is the Corolla Cross GR-S, “GR” badging is present. This model rides on 18-inch alloy wheels, finished in black.

Several GR-themed accents have been applied to the interior. Aligning with the range-topping Xr trim grade, GR-S spec features touchscreen infotainment, which incorporates screen-mirroring functionality, and dual-zone climate control. A reverse-view camera is also present, as are several safety features.

Further setting this model apart are revised suspension components and tuning. The power steering module has been recalibrated to deliver “more responsive” handling, steering feedback and cornering “prowess”.

This model is exclusively available with the Japanese automaker’s 1.8-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine. Coupled with a CVT, the 2ZR-FE unit directs 103 kW and 172 Nm of torque to the front axle. Toyota claims an average fuel consumption figure of 6.8 L/100 km.
