The Volvo XC60 T8 Recharge has officially arrived in South Africa, with the local arm of the Swedish automaker announcing pricing for the plug-in hybrid SUV. 

Slotting in above its mild-hybrid, B5- and B6-badged siblings, the T8 Recharge spearheads the refreshed XC60 line-up. It is priced at R1 218 900. The flagship variant is available with the option of two trim levels, R-Design and Inscription.

As standard, the T8 Recharge features the Gothenburg-based brand’s latest Android-powered infotainment system. The latter set-up incorporates built-in Google apps and services, including Google Assistant.

Inductive smartphone charging, heated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof are all part of the package, as is 19-inch alloy wheels. In addition to these items, the R-Design variant gains model-specific, sportier-looking interior trim, a Harman Kardon premium sound system, air suspension and wheels measuring up to 22 inches. 


Sited below the bonnet, the “high-performance”, low-emissions plug-in hybrid powertrain comprises Volvo’s turbo- and supercharger-equipped, 233 kW/400 Nm 2.0-litre petrol engine and 107 kW/309 Nm electric motor sited on the rear axle. The latter unit is connected to an 18.8 kWh lithium-ion battery. Power is sent to all four corners via the firm’s eight-speed Geartronic automatic transmission. 

According to Volvo, the PHEV arrangement delivers the best of both worlds, with the T8 Recharge boasting a fuel consumption figure of only 1.6-litre/100 km and a pure electric range of 81 km. The zero to 100 km/h acceleration time is rated at 4.6 seconds.
