Online auction company Bring a Trailer has announced that a Renault Clio V6 Trophy race car has been sold, with the 2001 example fetching $75 000, which, at the current Rand-Dollar exchange rate, amounts to R1 281 832.50!
Produced by Renault Sport, only 159 Trophy units were made. The cars were built for competition to promote the second-generation Clio. The model sold is car number 118.
Finished in yellow, the Clio V6 Trophy race car’s widened bodywork is wrapped around a 3.0-litre naturally aspirated V6 engine. The mid-mounted powertrain produces 210 kW and 306 Nm of torque, exclusively sent to the rear axle via a six-speed sequential transmission.
The hot hatch’s muscular bodywork features front and rear spoilers, side scoops and carbon-fibre side-mirror housings. This example rides on 18-inch Cromodora wheels wrapped in front 225/40 and rear 245/40 Yokohama ADVAN tyres. Brembo brake callipers are fitted all around.
The interior features a Sparco steering wheel and Magneti Marelli instrumentation. The OMP bucket seats are upholstered in black cloth. Renault Sport embroidery is also present. Sparco six-point harnesses are also included.
However, Bring a Trailer notes that a March 2021 letter from the EPA states the car was granted a racing-vehicle exclusion. Thus, this Clio V6 cannot be registered for street use in the US. Indeed, this example is intended for track use only.
