Volvo has announced that the updated XC60 is heading to South Africa, with the local arm of the Swedish car manufacturer confirming a launch date.

Scheduled to arrive here in the first quarter of 2022, the revised XC60 most notably gains upgrades to its interior. These additions include the Gothenburg-based brand’s latest, Android-powered infotainment system. The new-generation set-up features Google apps and services.

Slight enhancements to the exterior design include a revised front grille and bumpers.

Said Greg Maruszewski, managing director at Volvo Car South Africa, “This intuitive, next-generation infotainment system offers customers unprecedented personalisation and unparalleled connectivity. The software runs apps such as Google Maps for navigation, Google Play for music, and it offers hands-free help with Google Assistant.

“This is more than just a new tech feature; it boosts safety too. With Google Assistant, drivers can use their voice to get things done while keeping their focus on the road. They can do things like control the temperature, set a destination, play music and podcasts, and send messages, all while keeping their hands on the wheel.”

Touchscreen infotainment now powered by Android software.

Further upgrades include Volvo’s latest advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). This platform enables the development and deployment of active safety items, such as road-user detection, automatic braking and collision avoidance.

The most notable cosmetic updates to the exterior are a new grille and front bumpers. A new exterior colour option and wheel options are also on offer. Other personalisation options include new interior materials, including a leather-free option.
