BMW South Africa has quietly listed the local pricing — with that of the i4 M50 (see pricing here) — for the soon-to-arrive iX3 on its website. Once it arrives here, the all-electric, premium midsize SUV will be priced from R1 290 000.
As a reminder, the iX3 deploys the Munich manufacturer’s fifth-generation eDrive technology, which includes an innovative charging unit that sends power to both the 400 V battery and 12 V onboard power supply. This setup, BMW says, allows for both single-phase and three-phase charging at “up to” 11 kW.
Coupled with an 80 kWh (of which 74 kWh is utilised) battery pack, the iX3’s electric motor produces a total power output of 210 kW. Plugging the iX3 into a direct current rapid charging station allows for charging outputs of “up to” 150 kW, allowing for a zero to 80 per cent charge in only 34 minutes.
According to BMW, the iX3 can travel up to 520 km on a single charge on the NEDC test cycle. On the WLTP test cycle, a claimed 459 km of electric range is on offer.
