BMW South Africa has revealed pricing for the soon-to-arrive, second-generation 2 Series Coupé, with the local arm of the Munich-based car manufacturer announcing it will introduce a trio of derivatives in SA in the first quarter of 2022. See pricing below…

2 SeriesRevealed in July 2021, the new 2 Series “is focused squarely on dynamic performance”, with the latest versions boasting striking exterior design cues, a range of powerful engine options, “sophisticated” chassis technology and rear-wheel drive. Spearheading the local line-up, the M240i does, however, send power to all four corners via the German marque’s xDrive set-up, a first for a 2 Series Coupé.

As mentioned, the South African range will comprise three variants, the 220i, 220d and the aforementioned M240i xDrive. As a reminder, the 220i is powered by a four-cylinder, 2.0-litre turbopetrol motor, producing 135 kW and 300 N.m. Endowed with similar displacement and cylinders, the 220d’s turbocharged diesel unit is endowed with 140 kW and 400 Nm of torque. The range-topping (until the M2 arrives, that is) M240i xDrive’s 3.0-litre inline-six produces 285 kW and 500 Nm for a claimed zero to 100 km sprint time of 4.5 seconds.

Compared to the first iteration, the G42-generation models measure 105 mm longer and 64 mm wider. The wheelbase, meanwhile, has increased by 51 mm, while ground clearance has been lowered by 28 mm.

The front and rear tracks have been widened, too, with the former now measuring 54 mm wider (63 mm more in the M240i xDrive Coupé) and the latter up by 31 mm (35 mm more in the M240i xDrive Coupé).
