Last month, a total number of 41 019 vehicles were sold in South Africa. Of this figure, an estimated 34 935 (85.2 per cent) units represented dealer sales. An estimated 8.6 per cent of the overall figure represented sales to the rental industry, 5.0 per cent to corporate fleets, and 1.2 per cent to the government.

Regarding the passenger-car segment, a total of 29 545 cars (up by 5 048 units compared to June 2021) left showroom floors. The rental industry accounted for 11.2 per cent of passenger-car sales. Regarding the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment, bakkies and mini-buses, this market saw a decline of 20.8 per cent (2 329 units) compared to June 2021’s 11 206 units sold.
In June 2022, the number of cars exported registered an increase of 5 044 (18 per cent) compared to the same month in 2021, which recorded a figure of 28 010 vehicles.
