NEW-VEHICLE SALES BREAKDOWN

Reflecting on the domestic new-vehicle sales, the Automotive Business Council of South Africa says, “New-vehicle sales had a firm and momentum-building second month of the year.” In February 2023, sales increased by 1 128 units (2.6 per cent) compared to February last year. The total sales figure for the second month of 2023 was 45 352 units.

Compared to February 2022, the sale of new passenger vehicles saw a gain of 319 cars (1.1 per cent) to 29 976 units. Sales of new passenger cars to the rental industry saw an increase of 12.2 per cent. Domestic sales of new light commercial vehicles (LCVs), including bakkies and minibuses, increased by 5.5 per cent (683 units) to 12 972 units.

So, which manufacturer reported the highest number of domestic new-car sales during February 2023? Well, the top five remained the same (compared to January 2023). However, from there, there were some changes to the list, with Ford SA climbing to sixth position, thus relegating Renault to seventh (from the sixth spot in January 2023). Isuzu climbed two spots (tenth to eighth), Kia dropped from seventh to ninth, and Haval dropped from ninth to tenth.
