Celebrating 55 years of AMG, Mercedes-AMG has whipped the wraps off the G63 “Edition 55”, with the special-edition Gelandewagen boasting “particularly exquisite” details underlining the German marque’s claim of offering customers the “highest possible” individuality and exclusivity.
Why the G-Class, you ask? According to Mercedes, the G Wagon’s cult status made it the ideal ambassador to ring in the 55th anniversary of the sports car and performance brand. “Its long history and still genuine character make it the perfect first well-wisher for me on our 55th birthday,” said Philipp Schiemer, chairman of the board of management of Mercedes‑AMG GmbH.
“The success story of Mercedes‑AMG over the past 55 years is simply impressive. The same applies to the G‑Class, which has remained true to itself for over four decades in the course of its unique career.” Scheimer added. “And just as the G‑Class will lose nothing of its original character in its future all-electric variant, Mercedes‑AMG is also ensuring the hallmark driving performance made in Affalterbach in its electrified future.”
The G63 “Edition 55” is available in obsidian black metallic body hue or G manufactur opalite white bright paintwork. The exterior colour contrasts with matte tantalum grey AMG forged alloy wheels, measuring 22 inches in diameter. The firm also offers its AMG Night package and Night package II. The fuel filler cap is finished in chrome.
Inside, the cabin’s black upholstery is contrasted by red accents. The AMG lettering on the door sills illuminates in the latter colour. The seats are trimmed in two-tone Nappa leather.
