Billed as the “most advanced” double-cab bakkie ever produced by JAC, the T8 2.0L CTi has landed in South Africa. According to the Chinese automaker, the T8 boasts a “powerful” new engine and safety features “to suit lifestyle- and workhorse-related needs”. See pricing below…
Based on JAC’s eighth-generation international platform “that provides increased stability, safety and comfort”, the T8 is now available with a 2.0-litre CTi engine. The turbocharged unit produces 104 kW and 320 Nm, available from 3 600 r/min and a lowly 1 600 r/min to 2 600 r/min respectively. The engine is coupled to a “smooth” six-speed manual transmission. 4×2 and 4×4 variants are on offer.
“The T8 double-cab is the bestseller in our product stable. With its powerful new 2.0-litre turbo-diesel powerplant, it definitely will increase our share of this competitive market segment,” said Karl-Heinz Göbel, chief executive officer of JAC Motors South Africa.
Outside, the bakkie features a large hexagonal grille, which is finished in black. Flanking the latter item, the Xenon headlamps incorporate LED daytime-running lights. Fog lamps are intergrated into the front bumper.
The T8 rides on a set of 18-inch alloy wheels, complete with a “floral-inspired” design. The wheels are wrapped in 265/60 rubber.

As standard, the T8 ships with a host of active and passive safety features. These include dual airbags, traction control, vehicle dynamics control, electronic stability control, and hill-start hold assist. ABS and EBD are included, as is tyre-pressure monitoring.
Inside, the T8 features a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which incorporates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A USB port and 12 V socket are sited in the front.
The T8 2.0 CTi is priced at R412 400 for the 4×2 derivative and R462 400 for the 4×4. The asking prices include JAC’s five-year/150 000 km warranty and five years or 60 000 km service plan.
